Bar 100 Grand Opening

Today we officially open Bar 100! That in itself is a feat.

Have had lots of feedback about things that are not working exactly right on the site, still tweaking software and training on all the different components. Should have the reservation module on line this weekend and will have updated menus and wine list as well.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi Mark, I heard that opening night was a blast! Sorry that I couldn’t make it. I’m looking forward to seeing the new space. Congratulations :)

Well, we are finally open. It was a whirlwind of a weekend for me. I have to admit I hate openings - there are so many details to pull together, to communicate to guest and staff, timing things, ordering things and the little details on the menu - it can drive you crazy. Which it has.

My friend Richard came in late on Saturday and he said I looked happy. I guess I am. What pleases me the most is the interaction amongst different tables. I was hoping that people would ‘get’ the idea that we are encouraging ’sharing’ - of plates, wines and all the local tastes - which is what happened. Even more exciting was people sharing from one table to the other. We had a former UNCA chancellor swapping stories with a group of 30something Asheville natives; a former Asheville mayor sitting with the 5 year granddaughter of another table, explaining the ballet she was about to attend and then another evening, some late night exchanges between local painters, getting up from one table to join the other.

Of course, the goal of serving ingredients from within 100 miles is important, but even more important is ’sharing the table’. Something I have tried to encourage from the beginning.

So, Richard was right, I’m happy, but this is only the beginning, I’d better get used to late nights.

    Hi,

My wife, two daughters ages 6 and 3 and myself had dinner at Bar 100 today. The main dish, smoked chicken, was amazing. At first glance, I was uncertain that we were in the right place as there is no kids menu. As it turned out, your staff was very flexible and said that they would accommodate our needs. We all ordered the smoke chicken. The kids ate most of their food leaving only a bit of rice. That in itself was impressive. Great job!

As far as the moon pie goes, it was a bit over the top. The cookie was very difficult to break apart and the desert itself caused a major mess for us as you can imagine. Even as an adult, it was a bit too much to manage

If we lived here, we would come back. We might even check out the Market side of the house before we leave. The coffee was also excellent. And, we really enjoyed the goat cheese and apples.

    Thanks for serving us!

    THe Mathieu Family
